He told me that he’d been reading
the book of Revelation. And that
he had seen some things he’d never seen
before in chapters fifteen and sixteen.
It was the day after his open heart surgery
and much of what he was saying was not
making much sense. I’d be following and then
he’d start to swerve into the shadows and so
when he began talking about biblical prophecy
I mostly just nodded and smiled. But then
a few weeks later when sitting in his right mind
and drinking coffee with me one morning
we found ourselves again together in the
Apocalypse and it was pleasant to know
these beasts and cherubim were not
fever dreams of delirium but were instead
the sure and certain hope of my dad
and as lucid as our Starbucks. This man
awaiting the resurrection of all things
and the complete healing of the last day.
