If I could be like that tree that stood and sheltered me in rooted presence and boughs of hospitality. If I could be like that January lake at midnight frozen solid and still. Welcoming my footsteps as the moon cast shadows across the friendly ache of luxurious silence. If I could be like that elevated expanse of granite in the sunshine. Stretched out and waiting to warm a chilled and hidden child tucked away but emerging for the first time.
