Bedroom tears from my three-year-old
shackle and bind with
fears far beyond my ability to chase down and
kill with rationalized explanations.
Darkness, monsters, and loneliness
are not driven from my kid’s room
with wooden stake incantations or
silver bullet prayers.
What law can I lay down that
will stop the invading hoards
of dream and imagination?
For however imagined or dreamt
these fears might be
I return to my room
shackled and bound by
Darkness, Monsters, and Loneliness
that no one can tell me
are not real.
