Those who sow in tears
shall reap with shouts of joy!
He who goes out weeping,
bearing the seed for sowing,
shall come home with shouts of joy,
bringing his sheaves with him.
Psalm 126
“It’s only just beginning,”
the birds sing
together in their
varied tongues.
“It’s only just beginning
for there’s healing
in his branches.
The seed that was planted
is wearing new garments.
It’s only just beginning,”
they have much to sing this morning
but I’m invited into song.
…
I see now the farmer
jubilant yet not surprised
on the morning of discovery.
He removes his cap
and leans on his hoe
in a moment of observant joy;
a hidden smile at the marvel.
Now I hear again
the farmer’s whistle
as he begins again his work.
It’s the birdsong from the first;
now joining in their song.
…
“It’s only just beginning,” whispers off his lips
all creation sings and shouts aloud.
