The seed sits in darkness
purposed to wait
and entrusting itself
beyond the reach of light
to a day of germination.
The wait-beyond-waiting
unknowing blackness
and hidden even to itself;
yet the farmer and a watching crow
marked the day of hiding.
For he went about his business
of chores and afternoon coffee
all-the-while whistling with treasured intention
and a hidden knowledge
of the placed seed
and what it would become.
